Everflow has been named as a delivery partner in the WIN initiative – a project designed to measure, monitor and reduce commercial water leaks that has been awarded £495,000 by Ofwat’s Water Efficiency Lab for 2026.
We’re delighted to announce that the WIN (Water-Insurance Nexus) Initiative – a project we are involved with to reduce non-household water usage – has been named as one of seven successful schemes to be supported by Ofwat’s Water Efficiency Lab.
Quensus Limited leads the WIN Initiative, which has secured £495,527 to explore new ways of helping businesses identify and reduce unnecessary water waste. Working alongside partners including Aviva, Direk, the University of Southampton, Waterwise, Wates Group and Weir The Agency, Everflow will play an important role in bringing practical water efficiency solutions to commercial customers across England and Wales.
The project reflects our commitment to helping businesses save water, reduce costs and make sustainability simpler.
As our CEO, Craig Dallison, says:
“Being named as a delivery partner in the WIN Initiative is a real endorsement of Everflow’s approach to commercial water efficiency. Too many businesses are still losing 10–30% of their water to leaks and continuous flow simply because the sector lacks the tools to understand waste and do something about it. That’s a cost businesses just shouldn’t have to carry.
“What excites us about this project is that it brings together the right technology, the right partners and the right incentives to finally change that. By combining fixture level sensor data with clear, actionable insights, and exploring how water efficiency can link directly to insurance premiums, moving water management from something reactive to something genuinely commercially meaningful.
“For us at Everflow, this is exactly what we’re here to do: give businesses simple, practical tools that cut waste, reduce bills and make sustainability feel achievable rather than overwhelming. We’re proud to be part of a national regulator-backed programme like this, and we’re looking forward to showing just how much impact smarter water management can have for SMEs across the UK.”
What is the Water Efficiency Lab?
The Water Efficiency Lab is an annual competition to unlock and scale innovations that reduce water use by households and businesses across England and Wales. Without innovation and dramatic changes to the way we consume water in the UK, it is predicted that England alone will face a shortfall of 5 billion litres of water a day by 2055.
For this reason, Ofwat’s Water Efficiency Lab is awarding £25 million over four years to innovative solutions that help people and businesses take control of their water use, making saving water effortless.
The first Water Efficiency Lab programme has awarded £5 million to seven projects helping homes and businesses save water.
What is the WIN initiative?
The WIN Initiative aims to reduce water leaks in commercial buildings by combining fixture-level sensor technology from Quensus with occupancy and energy analytics from Direk. This creates a more complete picture of water use, allowing businesses to identify avoidable waste and prioritise repairs before costs go up.
The 18-month trial will cover 30 commercial buildings fitted with over 1,000 sensors. The project will also explore if improved water management could influence insurance risk and premiums. This will create an additional financial incentive for businesses to improve water efficiency across their premises.
