The Let’s Save Water campaign came into effect in May 2026. Let’s take a look at what it is and what it aims to achieve for the long-term.
Water scarcity is a growing problem in the UK, driven by a combination of factors, such as climate change, population growth and poor infrastructure. The Let’s Save Water campaign aims to address the water challenges. Here’s how.
What is the Let’s Save Water campaign?
The campaign may be relatively new – it was launched throughout England and Wales in May 2026 – but it is already making waves up and down the country. It is the biggest campaign of its kind to date, with the £75 million project requiring everyone’s involvement to spark change.
The product of a partnership between water companies, water regulator Ofwat, the Environment Agency, the Met Office and Natural Resources Wales, the Let’s Save Water campaign aims to transform the entire industry. Billions have been pledged by the water industry to fix leaks, upgrade infrastructure and increase supply, including a commitment to build 10 new reservoirs over the next five years.
There has also been a push to save water in homes and workplaces – making simple changes that can add up to making a huge difference.
Why does the UK need a national water campaign?
There has been mounting pressure on water resources for a number of years, with the growth of our population, climate change, uneven rainfall and increasing demand on water supplies just some of the issues contributing to this very big problem. On a smaller scale, within our homes and business premises, the loss of water through everyday leaks and wastage represent other troubling factors.
With England facing a 5 billion litre public water shortage by 2055 without urgent action, the Let’s Save Water campaign couldn’t have come at a better time.
What does this mean for businesses?
Businesses have a part to play in reducing the public water supply deficit and solving water efficiency challenges. Especially considering recent research, which revealed that 53% of UK businesses see water-related issues as significant risks.
Whether that risk is in the form of rising water costs, leakages or operational disruptions, the need for stricter water measurement implementation across all industry sectors is obvious. As one of the UK’s leading business utilities providers, we help our customers compare business water and avoid crippling business water prices. But there is more to do to reduce water-related risks in your business.
We’d always advise businesses to monitor their usage, fix leaks, install water-efficient fixtures and educate employees to keep risk to a minimum. Alongside providing the best business water prices an Everflow EcoMOT can help cut costs and ensure more efficient use of resources. Reducing your business’ carbon footprint is another objective during our water audits.
Every little bit of water saved helps you and the planet, and supports the Let’s Save Water campaign.
Will the campaign succeed?
While initiatives like the Let’s Save Water campaign help, they are often not enough to solve water scarcity. Success depends on public engagement, investment in infrastructure, better water efficiency technologies and everyone’s participation, including conscious business owners like you!
